Our Story
Cockburn's of Bedale is a multi-award winning butchers and delicatessen located in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Established in 1960, over the past 60 years we have built up an enviable reputation for supplying the finest quality local meat and produce in the area.
At Cockburn's we pride ourselves on being both knowledgeable and friendly, working with local farmers and specialist suppliers as the high quality of their produce is of paramount concern as is the welfare of all animals.
We use traditional methods of preparing and hanging meat alongside more up to date and unique ways to ensure every taste is catered for.
Whilst we stock award winning sausages we also offer a specialist range of Meats for your BBQ. We stock rare and exotic meats from around the world, including Crocodile and Kudu.
If you cannot find what you are looking for, in our shop or online, we can usually source and prepare most specialised products to your specification. We do need a bit of notice and some meats are unavailable at certain times of the year.
Our Heritage
Our Independent family business started in 1960 by our father Bryan Cockburn a man who had a passion for local produce. Myself, Jonathan and my brother Mark have continued that passion right through to today, sourcing only the very best home bred grass fed meat from our local producers. We strive to not be the biggest but be the absolute best at what we do.
With over 100 years of combined experience between us as Craft butchers we have the knowledge to produce and supply the very best cuts of meat to you, from some of our very best producers.
Provenance and quality is paramount to us as it was 60 years ago when our father started. Then there was only him and his travelling shop supplying all of the local villages and surrounding areas. Today we have 12 approachable and knowledgeable members of staff who are always happy to help and advise our customers and we now supply far and wide thanks to that wonderful thing called the internet! You no longer have to live in North Yorkshire to enjoy meat from animals reared as nature intended.
Our shop here in Bedale is the hub of our business. It continues to provide both loyal and new customers with the very best in local produce. Our award winning sausages are legendary with people travelling from far and wide to our shop to stock up.
